Super Bowl 2024 in Las Vegas

It’s soon time for the 58th Super Bowl which means it’s high time for us to write an article about everything you need to know about the final this Sunday – and it’s once again time for the San Francisco 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs to face off.
The last time the teams met in a Super Bowl final was during the 55th Super Bowl in 2020 which ended in a 32-20 win for the Kansas City Chiefs. Will they win again? What do the experts think? That’s exactly what we will go through in this Super Bowl 2024 guide.

The Road to Super Bowl – Chiefs vs 49ers

So… how did both these teams get here? Let’s take a closer look at the details of what brought the teams all the way here.
Kansas City Chiefs had quite a lot of difficulties early season that made most experts (and fans) doubt the team’s chances to reach the Super Bowl final. However, this changed towards the end of the season, especially during the final rounds.
First, they beat the Miami Dolphins in the Wild Card Round with 26-7, and then they continued to win the divisional round over Buffalo Bills with 27-24. They finally won the AFC when they beat the Baltimore Ravens in the finals with 17 to 10.
The San Fransisco 49ers on the other hand started the season very strongly and have played dominantly almost all the way through, which made them into early favourites to reach the Super Bowl final.
In the divisional round of NFC, they beat the Green Bay Packers with a score of 24-21 and continued to win the finals after they beat the Detroit Lions with a score of 34-31.

How have the teams performed in earlier Super Bowl finals?

Both teams have played in several Super Bowls, and it’s hard to say anything really when only looking at the stats below.

Super Bowl Stats 49ers Chiefs
Appearances (since 1967) 7 5
Wins 5 3
Losses 2 2
Last win 1995 2023
Appearances last 10 years 1 3

At face value, the stats tell us that the Chiefs should be the favourites. There are mainly 2 reasons for this. They’ve appeared in 3 Super Bowls in the past 10 years – and the last time they faced the 49ers in a Super Bowl – they won.
That said, the San Fransisco 49ers have played in 7 different Super Bowl finals in total and won 5 of these, while the Kansas City Chiefs have played in 5 Super Bowls and won 3. Despite the stats above, it’s the 49ers who are the favorites in the game – something that is confirmed when looking at the game odds on various betting sites.

How to watch the Super Bowl LVIII

Super Bowl has over 100 million viewers from all over the world every year – and the stadiums are almost always full early on. So how do you watch the Super Bowl in Canada? There are a few methods.

View online / watch TV

You can watch the game both online and on TV.

  • TV: This year’s Super Bowl will be broadcast on both CTV and TSN.
  • Online/Streaming: You can also stream the game online on CTV.ca, TSN+, the CTV app or through DAZN PPV.

Watch the game live

If you want to watch the game live you do have that option – but it’s a steep one. Currently on Ticketmaster the cheapest ticket available costs over 6,000 CAD. Nothing beats the feeling of watching a game live – despite its price. Over 70,000 fans are to be expected at the Allegiant Stadium in Florida this weekend.

The Top Players of the Teams

Many players have contributed to both teams’ successes this season, and it’s really hard to say who is considered the best – or most popular on both teams. That said, we’ve picked out 5 players on each team that we think have had a remarkable season.

Kansas City Chiefs

  • Patrick Mahomes (QB): Has played fantastically this season and has been a starter the past 6 seasons. This will be his fourth Super Bowl appearance.
  • Travis Kelce (TE): Has played a really good season. Very few players can play his position as well.
  • Chris Jones (DT): One of the most significant players this season for the Kansas City Chiefs.
  • Trent McDuffie (CB): With opponents like Deebo Samuel, Trent McDuffie will play a decisive defensive role in this year’s Super Bowl.
  • George Karlaftis (DE): A fantastic athlete with many strong sides. Few players can run as fast as Karlaftis.

San Francisco 49ers

  • Christian McCaffrey (RB): Probably one of the league’s best RBs with his 21 touchdowns during the season.
  • Trent Williams (LT): Tackles well and is generally a really strong player both defensively and offensively.
  • Fred Warner (LB): Very few can say that they’re as skilled as Fred Warner’s in the defence. A significant player in the Super Bowl final.
  • Deebo Samuel (WR): The same that can be said about Fred Warner’s defence can be said about Deebo Samuel’s offence.
  • Nick Bosa (EDGE): Decisive defensive player who has played an important role in the successes of the team throughout the season.

The National Anthem and the Half Time Show during Super Bowl 58

This year it’s none less than Usher who will get his turn to entertain us during the halftime show. The artist has been living in Las Vegas since 2021 and had this to say about his upcoming performance: “It’s a great honor that I finally get to cross it off my bucket list”.
That said, it’s not the first time the superstar performed in a Super Bowl halftime show. During Super Bowl XLV Usher was a guest artist alongside The Black Eyed Peas, which were the main band of the show.
We’ll also see 3 other artists during the 58th Super Bowl – Post Malone, Andra Day and Reba McEntire. Post Malone will perform with the song “America the Beautiful” and Andra Day will perform with “Lift Every Voice and Sing”. Reba McEntire – the Queen of Country – will be the one opening the game by singing

Summary

One thing that is quite clear is that Super Bowl 58 will offer us both thrills and entertainment. It’s not very clear which of the teams that has an advantage, and both teams have different strengths and weaknesses.
The teams are facing off in a Super Bowl final for the second time in just a few years, and the odds differences between the teams on various betting sites seem to be very close. That said, the 49ers have had a more solid season being strong and dominant all the way through. But is that enough to beat the Chiefs? We’ll see this upcoming Sunday. Good luck to both teams.
