Fifa Women’s World Cup Soccer 2023

The 2023 Women’s World Cup promises to be a thrilling series of matches, with the largest number of teams ever represented in the competition. Fans are in for an exhilarating four weeks of women’s soccer. In this article, we’ll take you through all the essential information for this tournament so that you can get ready to enjoy the action.

Where is it?

The 2023 Fifa Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand. The matches are divided between these two countries, with the final scheduled to take place in Stadium Australia, Sydney on August 20th.

Match schedule

The matches will run from 20th July to 20th August. The first stage is the Group stage and it kicks off on July 20th. The 32 teams are divided into 8 groups and each team plays against every other team in their group. The winners and runners-up of each first-round pool will progress to the Round of 16. Here, each team plays one knock-out match. The surviving teams head to the quarter-finals, which will run on the 11th and 12th August. The winners of that stage will go through to the semi-finals which will be held on 15th and 16th August. Next is the third-place play-off on 16th August. The match everyone will be waiting for, the final, will happen on 20th August and will be played by the two teams who have managed to fight their way to the top.

Teams who have qualified

In total, 32 teams have qualified from all over the world. These qualifying teams are:

North and Central America and Caribbean – Canada, USA, Haiti, Costa Rica, Jamaica and Panama.

South America – Brazil, Argentina and Colombia

Europe – Germany, Denmark, France, Spain, England, Switzerland, Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, Norway and Sweden

Africa – Nigeria, South Africa, Zambia and Morocco

Asia – China, Philippines, Korea Rep, Vietnam and Japan

Oceania – Australia and New Zealand.

Favorites for the victory

The time has finally come for the USA to defend its title. Back in 2019, the USA fought it out against some fantastic teams, to end up victorious with a 2–0 win against the Netherlands. It was their second consecutive win and their fourth out of the nine championships that have been played since the competition began in 1991. Therefore, the USA is the clear favorite this time around.

However, it’s not all about the USA. There are some fantastic teams who would love to hold the cup above their heads. The Netherlands put up a good fight last time, and it looks like they’ve managed to retain their form. The England team are excellent title contenders and so are Spain and Germany. So there’s plenty to look forward to, as these top-flight teams give it their all to win the cup.

Biggest stars

With 32 teams in the World Cup, there’s certainly plenty of talent to choose from. We’ve taken a look at the teams and picked our top three biggest stars to keep an eye on.

Christine Sinclair – Canada

At the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, held in 2021, Christine Sinclair helped her team win the top spot, and they received the coveted gold medal. She is a top international goal scorer and is certainly one to watch when she gets out onto the field.

Alex Morgan – USA

Since she moved to San Diego Wave last year, Alex has been in great shape. She is one of the biggest stars in women’s soccer and has twice helped the USA to a World Cup victory. Both in 2015 and 2019, Alex was in the team that bought the cup home. So, we’re expecting big things from her this time around.

Sam Kerr – Australia

It can’t get much more impressive than playing in a World Cup on home territory. So the pressure is on for Australia’s Sam Kerr. However, we’re sure that a player of her stature is more than up to the challenge. Sam swapped her USA club for Chelsea in 2019 and has really polished her game. All the signs are that she will help her team to produce a strong performance in this World Cup.

Canada’s chances in the World Cup

Ranked number seven in the world, Canada stands a good chance of making an impression on this World Cup. They drew with England (who are ranked number four in the world) in a friendly match just before the start of the 2023 World Cup, which is a good indication of their form.

Canada is drawn in Group B in the tournament along with Australia, Nigeria and Ireland. This is a challenging group. In fact, some people are calling it the Group of Death because all the teams in the group are very strong and all equally capable of beating each other. If Canada can make it through this first round, they might have a chance to make it all the way.
